Accessibility Statement — Gerald Ross Agency Oregon Coast

Accessibility Statement

Our commitment to making our website accessible to everyone.

Last updated: April 2026

Gerald Ross Agency is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We continually improve the user experience for everyone and apply relevant accessibility standards to help users with disabilities access our website and services. Our goal is to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA.

Conformance Status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. Our website is substantially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Substantially conformant means that the vast majority of content fully conforms to the accessibility standard, and we are actively remediating any remaining gaps.

Accessibility Features

We have implemented the following accessibility features on our website:

  • Semantic HTML structure with proper heading hierarchy for screen reader compatibility
  • Descriptive alt text on all informative images throughout the site, including all blog post hero images
  • Keyboard navigation support throughout the site — all interactive elements are reachable via Tab key
  • Visible focus indicators for keyboard users on all interactive elements
  • Color contrast ratios meeting WCAG 2.1 AA minimums (4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text)
  • Descriptive link text that makes sense out of context — icon-only links include aria-label attributes
  • Form labels associated with their respective input fields using for/id pairing
  • ARIA landmark roles (main, nav, footer, banner) to aid navigation
  • Resizable text — the site is fully functional at 200% browser zoom
  • User zoom is not restricted — pinch-to-zoom and browser zoom are fully supported on all devices
  • Social media icon links in the footer include descriptive aria-label text (e.g., "Follow Gerald Ross Agency on Facebook")
  • Decorative icons are marked with aria-hidden="true" to prevent screen reader clutter
  • Mobile navigation toggle button includes a descriptive aria-label
  • All blog post images are served in WebP format at high resolution (up to 2000px wide, quality 90) for clarity across all screen sizes

Recent Accessibility Improvements (April 2026)

Following an automated WCAG 2.1 AA audit conducted in April 2026 using axe-core, we resolved the following issues:

  • User zoom re-enabled: Removed the maximum-scale=1 restriction from the viewport meta tag, restoring full pinch-to-zoom and browser zoom support on all pages.
  • Icon-only links labeled: Added aria-label attributes to all four social media icon links in the footer (Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, LinkedIn) so screen readers announce their purpose.
  • Decorative icons hidden: Added aria-hidden="true" to all purely decorative SVG icons so screen readers skip them.

Known Limitations

Despite our best efforts, some limitations remain. We are actively working to address them:

  • Some older PDF documents linked from the site may not be fully accessible to screen readers. We are working to update these documents or provide accessible HTML alternatives.
  • Some video content may not yet have closed captions. We are working to add captions to all video content.
  • Some third-party embedded content (such as Google Maps or payment widgets) may not fully meet all accessibility standards. We are monitoring vendor updates.
  • Color contrast on some decorative UI elements (such as category badge overlays on blog card images) may fall below the 4.5:1 threshold for small text. We are reviewing these on an ongoing basis.
